（ＣＮＮ） 内戦が続くシリアのアサド政権が、ロシアから少なくとも１０機の戦闘機を輸入し、さらに多くの戦闘機を求めていることがロシア国営メディアの報道で明らかになった。
ロシアの国防産業関係者が３１日にロシア国営イタルタス通信に語ったところによると、ロシアは「以前に締結した契約」に基づき、アサド政権に１０機の「ミグ２９」戦闘機を販売するという。
またモスクワを訪問中のシリア代表団は、ロシア側にさらに多くの戦闘機の提供を求めており、ロシアの軍用機メーカー「ミグ」のコロトコフ社長は国営ロシア通信のインタビューで、同社とシリア当局の間で新たな契約の詳細や期間について話し合っている最中だと述べた。
この報道に先立ち、欧州連合（ＥＵ）は２７日、シリアへの武器禁輸措置の解除を決定した。この決定は、欧州諸国による反体制派への軍事支援の道を開くものと考えられているが、同時に、ロシアが長年同盟関係にあるアサド政権への支援をさらに拡大する可能性もある。
ロシアは戦闘機に加え、２０１０年に締結した契約に基づき、シリアに地対空ミサイルシステム「Ｓ３００」も販売したとされる。
ロシアは、シリアへの武器供与は国際法に反していないとし、市民に対して使用される恐れのある武器の供給を否定してきた。
しかし米国のケリー国務長官は、ロシアのＳ３００の供与について「それが以前に締結された契約であろうとなかろうと、（シリア周辺）地域の均衡や安定に深刻な悪影響を及ぼすものであり、イスラエルが危険にさらされる」と懸念を示した。
