海兵隊の内規では、隊員に対し敬礼がしにくくなるなどの理由で制服着用時での傘の使用を禁じている。
ホワイトハウスの屋外にあるローズガーデン内で行われた合同記者会見の途中で、小雨がにわか雨に転じたのを受けオバマ大統領が海兵隊隊員２人に傘を開くよう命じていた。
